COUV.COM Originals are back and this time we’re taking a trip to a local farm.

Business begins with relationships at Inspiration Plantation in Ridgefield. The diversified family farm is rooted in ancestral land where connections are cultivated between the farmer, the consumer, and nature – all in a quest for whole food grown in sustainable ways.

The entire process is a labor of love for Matt and Jen Schwab, who first started the farm in 2009. From the start, the Schwabs have worked to raise their animals in a way that is good for the animal, good for the land, and ultimately good for the consumer. It’s a philosophy best described in the adage posted to the Inspiration Plantation website: happy healthy animals = happy healthy food = happy healthy people.

That practice means organic animal feed, rotational pasture grazing, and a commitment to teaching people about the food they eat.

The food the family grows comes from the same land that Matt’s family has tended for more than 100 years. So as the couple cares for the wide range of vegetables, pigs, lambs, chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese and eggs, they are adding to the rich roots already seeded in the land. It’s a connection that continues as the couple sell products to consumers through direct farm sales and through sales at area farmer’s markets.

Check back next Thursday for the full video and later next week for an exciting new series: Growing Local.  The series will tell the story of reforging that historic relationship between grower and consumer.
