A House bill sponsored by Democrats Sharon Wylie and Jim Moeller, both from the 49th Legislative District, seeks to force health plans that offer maternity care to also pay for abortions. Using vague terms such as “voluntary termination of a pregnancy” HB-2330 was approved.

abortion coverage

A bill requiring health insurance policies cover abortions was sponsored by Democrats Moeller and Wylie.

The legislation exempts multi-state health plans and preserves the right of providers, carriers, and facilities to refuse to participate for reason of conscience or religion.

According to The Olympia Report, Bill Hinkle (R-Moses Lake) “put the state on notice that the bill is a violation of the Hyde amendment, which bans the use of federal funds to pay for abortions.”

The bill is scheduled for public hearing in the Senate Committee on Health & Long-Term Care at 1:30 p.m. today. (Subject to change).
