The Vancouver-Clark Parks & Recreation winter catalog is a great guide of things to do in Clark County. The parks department organizes the activities and distributes the catalog by mail and in central locations, such as the Marshall and Firstenburg Community Centers.

The 2011 catalogue is available online and at select community centers

A complete PDF copy of the guide can be downloaded here [PDF].

The 48-page booklet contains information on classes, activities, events, recreation ideas, and how the public can reserve and rent space for their own events.

Class registration is accepted online at the Parks & Rec website.

The new catalog also offers ways to save. Annual passes to either the Marshall Center, the Firstenburg Center, or the Vancouver Tennis Center qualify for a complimentary month when purchased in January. In addition, annual passholders can receive 15 percent savings on some classes and activities from the current catalog.

For Clark County residents who relish organizing their own activities, reservations for picnic shelters can be made starting Feb. 1.

For big events in the parks or trails, a park use permit may be required. Online applications are found at vanclarkparks-rec.org. Look for “Parks & Trails” on the navigation menu, then select “Event Planning,” or call 360-487-8337.

For residents who like to dig in the dirt, the city offers five community gardens with several different plot sizes. Starting Feb. 21, returning gardeners can sign up for a plot. New gardeners can sign up starting Feb 27.

With tons of inexpensive – even free – activities the catalog offers recreation options for people of all ages and abilities. Scholarships are also available to low-income families.
