Memorial Day has its roots in the late 1800s. The holiday was first called Declaration Day and meant to honor those who died while fighting in the Civil War.

Since then, its scope was widened to honor all Americans who died in service.

We were able to take a look at some historic military photos, uniforms and items a few weeks back. One of our visual storytellers, Miles Burnett, compiled the video you see above.
