Nick Shaw, a senior at the Vancouver School of Arts and Academics, has been waiting on pins and needles to discover whether he won a student Emmy. We just heard from Shaw that it’s in the bag.

“Yep, just found out I won the Emmy,” he said.

Shaw wrote, directed and edited “The Muffin Man.” The short film, posted to YouTube user NickBurnside’s channel, included other VSAA students Garrett Farness as assistant director and actor, Scarlet Hollis on camera and audio, Alex Gavlick as actor and Issac Chamberlain on crew. The team of students is advised by Vancouver School of Arts and Acdemics teacher Jim Jeffers.

“The Muffin Man,” a 10-minute comedy, is a social commentary on friends and the dramatic turns friendship can take when exploited. A talent to turn food items into muffins creates fun visuals, but when the Muffin Man is encouraged to abuse his powers, events take a dramatic turn.

The student Emmy is administered and presented by the Northwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

Congratulations, Nick Shaw!
