After serving three terms, Secretary of State Sam Reed decided to retire. To educate the public about the duties and importance of the Secretary of State position, COUV.COM and the Freedom Foundation are sponsoring a live debate in Vancouver.
Candidates will debate for one hour Thursday, Mar. 29 at Fort Vancouver High School located at 5700 E. 18th Street. Oregon Association of Broadcasting “Radio Personality of the Year” Victoria Taft will moderate the evening.Citizen Action Network Director and organizer Scott Roberts, says, “2012 is a busy year for campaigns. The Secretary of State race may become overshadowed by upticket elections. We want to provide a forum where candidates can differentiate themselves.”
The Secretary of State is elected every four years and is second in the line of succession to the Office of the Governor and is the state’s chief elections officer. All Secretary of State Candidates have been invited to participate.
