Debbie Peterson provided the following text for her interview:

Debbie was born in St. Louis Park, Minnesota.  She attended Northwest Nazarene University where she earned a BA in Biology with a GPA 3.1.  She attended Concordia University, 1996 – 1998, earning a Teaching Certificate with a GPA 4.0.

Her first career was in finance, starting out like most as a loan officer.  Her last position was with the Port of Portland Credit Union as Credit Union Manager.

Her second career has been in education.  Debbie taught fourth grade at our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church for eight years.

During her teaching years, Debbie was awarded the Bill and Melinda Gates grant for $20,000.  She was also awarded approximately $10,000 award to study the Constitution at James Madison’s Estate.

Her school was awarded the National Blue Ribbon Award, an honor awarded by President Bush and Our Lady of Lourdes was the only school to receive that recognition that year in Washington State.

In 2005 and 2007, Debbie was awarded Who’s Who Among American Professionals and Educators for both business and education.

Other activities include Debbie being invited to join the Portland Opera Chorus to sing with them in New York at Carnegie Hall in 1989.  She also toured England with the Vancouver USA Singers 1988 – 1993 and was a member of the Bravo! Choir for ten years.

Debbie has been a member of the Nazarene Church her entire life and currently attends Camas Church of the Nazarene.

Currently Debbie’s volunteer efforts are directed toward the Humane Society, and… as many of you know,  Debbie spends a great deal of her time working for the Republican causes in this county and state and advocating for the citizens of Clark County, including retaining the current I-5 Bridge, proposing a better bridge project either east or west of the existing I-5 bridge, and advocating for taxpayers by presenting their cause to the Clark County Commissioners. Commissioner Mielke supported her recommendation to not increase 2012 property taxes by 1% and Commissioners Steve Stuart and Marc Boldt followed that recommendation.

Because of Debbie’s financial and education background¸ she is uniquely qualified to lead this state back to an economic recovery, begin the process of getting our students’ academic scores back on track, and our work force back into jobs.

COUV.COM has invited every candidate on Clark County ballots to share their views with voters in a free-flowing interview where candidates are free to talk about whatever they like.  In addition to that conversation, each candidate will wrap up each interview by speaking directly to voters as they see fit.

COUV.COM streams each interview live, including live audio before and after each interview so listeners can hear our pre-interview and post-interview conversations. It’s our way of being transparent and welcoming open unfiltered access behind the scenes.

Although our invitation was extended to all candidates, some accepted and some declined.  If they do not appear on COUV.COM by October 15, it is because they declined to participate.

COUV.COM can publish submitted text from each candidate that participates.  However, we will not include text that talks negatively about another candidate.  We encourage positive issues-oriented messages.
