Located on Esther St. between 6th and 8th the Vancouver Farmers Market has been a mainstay of Vancouver life for over two decades. It returns to downtown for its 23rd season debt free.A few years ago, the market incurred a significant amount of debt and took action by closing its indoor operation. Since then, dedicated effort by staff and the board of directors insured the market’s survival.
“The market has been working hard to recover from some of those challenges and move forward in a positive way” says Executive Director Jordan Boldt.Board President Jim Mains agrees and praises Treasurer Steve Cronbaugh as instrumental to the recovery. “Relieving our debt was a major step in the right direction.”
Mounting enthusiasm for the market’s 23rd season begins percolating as soon as the community experiences a break in the rain.
“This is an exciting time, we can really put a lot behind us and start looking to the future without the burdens of debt holding us back,” says Mains.
Opening date is set for Saturday, Mar. 17 with a promise to continue a commitment to local foods and small business and “some major changes” says Jordan Boldt.
Hours of operation are 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturdays and 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sundays through October 28.
